International Women’s Day: ‘A Day Without A Woman’ — PICS

International Women’s Day occurs annually, but this year, many are also participating in a general strike known as a Day Without A Woman. Its intention is to recognize the importance of women to the socio-economic system in America. You can wear red in solidarity, and refrain from shopping and/or working today. On January 21st, we made a public commitment that we are ready to have each other's backs. That we are ready to see ourselves in another's struggles. Today, as we wear red, the color of revolutionary love and sacrifice, we hope that our commitment to each other is reinforced. Wherever you are, and however you are able to participate, what is most important is that we use the day to dig deep and ask ourselves about how women, and all gender-oppressed people, are treated in our society – from our homes to our communities to our government, from our schools to corporate boardrooms, from bathrooms to hospitals to prisons, from the day we're born until the day we die. Today, we are guided by the principle that reaffirming that gender justice is racial justice is economic justice. Today, people everywhere will again stand up for these foundational values, and will stand together in making a #DayWithoutAWoman a beacon of hope, energy and love.
