Shoppers boycott Walmart over policy change blasting the retailer is 'turning its back on the workin

FREQUENT customers have said they're ditching Walmart after the retailer made a major policy change this past September.

Walmart shoppers are taking a stance against changes the store made to its coupon usage policy.

Walmart shoppers will no longer be able to earn cash when using a coupon that has a value of more than the price of an item.

And some customers say they aren't sticking with the retailer over it.

That isn't the only change in the policy though.

THE COMPLAINT

One user took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice their concerns.

"Due to your 'NEW' store policy on coupons WE will no longer be using Walmart as our twice weekly retailer," they wrote in a tweet.

The tweet also read: "The Walmart Corp. IS TURNING ITS BACK ON THE WORKING CLASS PEOPLE WHO HAVE MADE IT WHAT IT IS TODAY. I'm sure you will receive a THANK YOU from Sam's & BIG Lots."

Walmart did not respond to the X user.

The U.S. Sun reached out to Walmart for comment.

The U.S. Sun previously reported on the retailer's coupon changes that took effect on September 24.

The retailer had reportedly not changed its coupon policy since November 2017.

“Walmart does not give cash back nor will any overages apply to the remaining items in the transaction if the value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item, including WIC and SNAP,” the policy now reads.

“The value of a coupon will be applied up to the price of the item and any excess value will not be applied to the transaction total.”

Shoppers are also unable to use more than four identical coupons in one day.

The retailer is also only accepting one “paper manufacturer coupon” per item for all in-store purchases.

But it's not limiting the number of coupons shoppers can use overall during a purchase.

EMPLOYEE COUPON BENEFITS

Another change in the policy has to do with an employee’s ability to accept a coupon declined by the computer system.

Previously, employees were able to accept certain coupons if the machine declined them.

However, now the policy states that that authority is only given to a store manager.

Customers confused by any of the new changes should see the retailer’s updated policies to ensure their coupon meets the requirements to be accepted.

The store also said it “reserves the right” to refuse or limit a customer’s use of any coupon for any reason, particularly if the shopper becomes disruptive.
